This is Ann and Heidi who were both on our team. Ann is a survivor of brain cancer, and this past year had to re learn how to walk and talk. Here she is with Heidi who is her physical therapist. Ann set a goal for herself a few months back to be able to walk well enough to make it around the track for the survivor lap of the Relay with out any help. SHE DID IT! It was very touching to see her determination and her pride as she accomplished her goal . Her husband and sister were also very proud of her. She's been through an awful lot this past year. We were honored to cheer Ann on as part of our team.
Here is Ann with her sister and Husband. It was so moving to see how they love and support her. Here is a photo of part of my team. There were 6 ladies missing from this photo who could'nt come until later on in the night. It was hard work being the team captain, but it was worth it. We all worked together and earned over 4,000.00 dollars for the American Cancer Society! I was very pleased with the effort our team made towards this cause.
This is a photo of our friends Brenda and her daughter Malinda. Brenda was one of the survivors on our team. Her and Eleen had the same kind of thyroid cancer. We were happy to have her there and cheer her on along with Eleen and Ann who were also on our team. Brenda almost pulled an all nighter too! I was pretty dang impressed with her enthusiasm for the Relay!
This is a photo of Ann walking her survivor lap. Her husband, sister and Heidi, her Physical therapist are with her. Ann's story inspires many and it was a part of the Relay experience that I will never forget.
This is a photo of Ali giving her "yeah, ok, we know already!" look. The speaker in the background was going on and on during our opening ceremony about how we should be so proud of ourselves for being in volved, and how we are all there to help, and all this stuff. It was a good talk, but we all knew why we were there!
